So what exactly is Sebastian Noel’s Paleo Recipe Book?

The Paleo Recipe Book actually comes with a set of three books. These books are the Paleo Recipe Book, the Paleo Meal Plan and a bonus Herbs & Spices Guide. Allow me to go into all three briefly.

Paleo Recipe Book Review

First and foremost we have the Paleo Recipe Book. This book comprises 300+ recipes paleo diet recipes. The book is broken down by types of dishes. The types of dishes include red meat, pork, poultry, stew and curries, fish, salads, shellfish and seafood, eggs and omelets, stir fries, vegetables and sides, snacks, soups and snacks, marinades and sauces, offals, breakfasts and desserts, dips and finally lacto-fermented vegetables.

Each recipe is totally comprehensive, featuring all the ingredients, how to prepare them and even a photo of what the final product will look like. These pages are well designed and easily understood. If you are anything like me, you’ll find it very difficult not to get hungry while looking over the recipes.

All the information you could possibly want is right there, in my paleo recipe book review. From the preparation to the ingredients. Simple, easy to read and a photo to make sure your meal turns out right.

Paleo Meal Plan

The second book in the package is the Paleo Meal Plan guide. Most people attempting a new diet now that meal planning is one of the most important steps. This is especially true if your cooking for a group of people or are on a budget.

I found it useful because it gave me some structure. There are so many dish in the paleo recipe book that it’s sometimes difficult to decide what to cook for which specific day. It really seems like Sebastian put a lot of thought into making this meal plan as useful as possible. Just look at how organized it makes things:

Herbs & Spices

The final book you’ll receive is the Paleo guide to herbs and spices. This book covers 25+ herbs and spices. It discusses the medicinal properties, historical roots and nutritional value of all the herbs. Additionally it teaches you which herb goes best with which dish.

So will the Paleo Recipe Book really help you lose weight and have more energy?

Absolutely. Once I tried the Paleo Diet I found myself having great results in just a week or two. I lost bodyfat and found myself with more energy then I’d ever had in my life. Overall my body just felt cleaner. I was thinking clearer and looking leaner.

The problem was that this diet was getting sort of boring. I wanted to stay true to the Paleo Diet but needed more recipes. The Paleo Recipe Book proved to be the perfect solution. I found a simple way to maintain my preferred way off eating without boring the heck out of my palette.

What are the BAD things about the Paleo Recipe Book by Sebastian Noel?

Hey, nothing is perfect. Here are a few cons of this product.

1) Some of the recommended recipes were extremely time consuming. For someone without a lot of time on their hands, it can be daunting to cook something like Osso Buco for example.

2) I found the pictures inside of Paleo Recipe Book were really helpful however there was not enough of them.

What are the GOOD things about the Paleo Recipe Book by Sebastian Noel?

1) There are 300+ recipes to keep your paleo diet fun and exciting. Most importantly, they are really easy to follow. Even a caveman can do it :)

2) The bonus Meal Plan and Herbs and Spices book proved to be really useful. I especially enjoyed the Paleo Meal Plan. It gave me a sense of structure and organization with my diet that I wouldn’t have had otherwise.

3) This recipe book applies to just about everyone. It’s extremely versatile. No matter who you are or where you are from you will find many dishes that suit you.

4) It extremely well designed. The glossy pages, sharp photos and easy to follow recipes make for a really pleasant overall experience.

What is my overall opinion on the Paleo Recipe Book by Sebastian Noel?

My opinion is that this recipe book is well worth the purchase. Maintaining a paleo diet and keeping it new and tasty is important and one of the best metabolism boosters available. Having an easy to access, easy to follow resource to make sure that happens is perfect. Sure there are a few flaws but the pros really outweigh the cons here.

Additionally the Paleo Meal Plan was a real boon to this package because it provided me with the sort of structure I needed to keep my paleo diet affordable, planned out and simple. Overall I recommend this product.

OK, since I imagine you’d like a sneak peak of the goodies inside of the Paleo Recipe Book I figure I’d introduce you to two of my favorite dishes in the book. I also know how popular paleo snacks and paleo breakfast recipes can be so I figured I’d give you the best of both worlds. Without further ado here is my absolute favorite paleo breakfast and paleo treats courtesy of The Paleo Recipe Book.

Paleo Snacks and Paleo Breakfast Recipes

Almond Flour Pancakes – These pancakes turn out crispy and crunchy. They’re best served with berries

Ingredients 

1 cup almond flour;
2 eggs;
1/4 cup water;
1 tbsp honey;
1 tsp vanilla extract;
A pinch of ground cinnamon;
Coconut oil, butter or ghee for cooking;
A pinch of salt

Preparation
1) Combine the eggs, honey and vanilla extract in a
bowl and whisk everything together.Add the almond flour, cinnamon and a pinch of
salt and combine well. 

2) Heat a large pan over a medium heat, add a bit
of coconut oil or butter to coat and pour 1/8
of the pancake batter, quickly turning the pan
around to spread the pancake over the whole
pan.

3)Cook until brown on the underside, about 1 minute
and then flip and cook for another minute
on the other side.

Double Chocolate Cookies - Eat chocolate guilt free. This paleo recipe book favorite serves up a tray of sugarless dark chocolate cookies that will really hit the spot. Just make sure to enjoy them with moderation. :)

The Paleo Recipe Book

Ingredients
1 cup almond butter;
1 tbsp melted butter, ghee or coconut oil;
1 egg;
1/4 cup cocoa powder;
1/4 cup dark chocolate chips;
2 tsp vanilla extract;
A pinch of fine sea salt
Preparation 

Preheat your oven to 350 F.

Mix all the ingredients well together in a bowl.

Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper,
scoop out pieces of dough about 1 tbsp in size
and press them on the parchment paper in the
shape of a cookie. The cookies won’t expand or
change shape when cooked.

Place in the oven to bake for about 12 minutes,
until just cooked.


Paleo Recipe Book Author

Before I get into some of my favorite paleo treats and paleo breakfast recipes (this is coming up in the next post) I want to give you some background information on the author. This is important because you want to make sure that the information is credible.

Well, the author of this recipe book is Sébastien Noël. He’s one of the leading authorities on the low carb Paleo Diet. His story isreally one of empowerment. Sebastian was suffering from a slew of health issues including leaky guy, allergies, malabsorption, irritable bowels and candida overgrowth. He had horrible migraines, severe weight loss and a slew of other problems.

This story is not a sad one. In fact, it’s really incredible. After years of experimentation and searching Sebastien has managed to completely change his health with the paleo diet. I mean, looking at him it’s clear that he is fit and in great shape. It’s hard to believe that this is someone who suffered from such imbalances.

The good news is that he has decided to share his wealth of knowledge and wisdom with all of us. His life mission is to make the paleo diet as accessible and easily implementable as humanly possible. Part of the way he does that is by providing easily digestible (pun not intended) tidbits of advice to help people implement more paleo recipes in their diet.

For many people, eating the Paleo way can seem limiting. They think, why would I want to eat like my ancestors when I have all this delicious food available to me right now. Some people believe that just because it’s called the caveman diet means you have to eat like a neanderthal. This simply is not true and Sebastian is on a mission to prove that. That’s why the paleo recipe book is a culmination of 300+ recipes all designed to keep this awesome diet savory and succulent. That’s awesome.

Paleo Recipe Book Review – What is the benefit of the Caveman Diet?

Before someone reads my paleo recipe book review it makes sense to learn the benefits of this diet. I mean, you wouldn’t start a Fried Chicken Diet without knowing what the benefits are right? Come to think of it, the only benefit would be that you’d only have to wear sweat pants from now on. Thankfully, this recipe book is far more sensible. So without further ado…here are the top benefits of this paleo diet book.

Slimmer Waist

That’s right, I said it. Since starting this diet I found myself trimming down significantly. I lost fifteen pounds and the vast majority of that was fat. I was shocked to find my self looking so much leaner. The best part was that it only took a week or two to start seeing the benefits.

More Energy

I know it’s crazy to imagine but when you feed your body what it is biologically programmed to consume, you actually functionally optimally. These low carb paleo diet recipes had me feeling more energtic then I’d ever felt in my life. I found the surge of life simply running through my veins. Sure, it’s something you can just right off but the ability to feel cleaner and healthier energy cannot be underestimated.

Scientifically Proven To improve Health

Recent scientific studies have shown that a return to a traditional paleo food diet has a slew of medical benefits…even if it’s short term consumption. Just a few of the benefits include improved blood pressure, decrease of insulin secretion, increase of insulin senstivity and impovement of lipid profiles.

OK, what the heck does all this mean? Basically eating food on the paleo diet food list can help reduce your chances of getting diabetes, heart disease and obesity. How cool is that?!?

Paleo Diet For Athletes

There are many reasons to assume that the Paleo Diet is just perfect for athletes. The rationale stems from the fact that Neanderthal man was quite athletic himself. Allow me to list just one of the fun facts related to our inspirational ancestor.

One of the most amazing feats of Neanderthals was that they were to known to have almost no trouble covering ten plus miles a day while hunting for their dinner. The most interesting fact of all is that they did this on a diet consisting primarily of meat. Suck it vegetarians!

In fact, there was a famous study conducted in the New England Journal of Medicine that found that the Paleo diet contained way more Vitamin C, calcium, folate, iron and essential fatty acids than our current supermarket-based far. To this day I haven’t found a better way of maintaining this diet then the paleo recipe book reviewed here.

Now it’s hard to believe for a lot of athletes that a diet void of carbohydrates like rice, grain and pasta could possibly be suited for a true competitor. They rely on these food for energy and have for so long that it is nearly indoctrinated as gospel.

But according to Dr. Cordain staple foods like pasta, rice and breads were not part of our diet until 10,000 years ago. I know that may seem like a long time but that’s really about half a second on the evolutionary time scale.

Of course, he does not suggest to cut barbs out completely. It’s clearly quite crucial for any top performing athlete to have carbs in their diet however, which carbs to choose is a whole different story. His carbs of juice are hands down fruits and veggies.

I know this may sound a bit odd to some but it makes perfect sense to me. Eating the way we’ve evolved to eat simply makes sense. Even if that means cutting out the Chicken Parmigiana. :)

Paleo Books Reviewed

Here is my recommendation for the best paleo diet cook books that are on the market right now. Yea, you know you want this.

a) Paleo Recipe Book – This is the product that I recommend most. It is the most comprehensive of all the cookbooks and the best place to begin. I also like it because it comes with supplementary products such as a paleo diet meal plan, and a guide to herbs and spices.

I also have a personal admiration for the authoer, Sebastian Noel, of Paleo Diet LifeStyle (http://paleodietlifestyle.com/). He is someone that has really known hardship and has found salvage in the Paleo Diet. To read my paleo recipe book review click here.

b) Paleo Cook Books – I know it sounds similar to the first topic but it’s actually a different product all together. This is actually the original paleo diet cook book. It comes with two cookbooks. One is entitled “Recipes for the 21st Century Hunter Gatherer” and the other is entitled “Paleo Eating For Modern People.”

These books combined feature hundreds of delicious recipes including chicken noodle soup, warm tomato and chicken salad, basil and lime rice and chocolate coconut snack bar. My mouth is kind of watering just thinking about it.

c) Paleo Diet CookBook — Ok, Ok, I realize all the names kind of sound the same but I assure you they’re different. This is the only one of the choices that is actually in hard copy form. Some of my favorite recipes include Greek Chicken Kebabs and Wild Salmon Basil Burgers.

This book contains 16 meal plans, features several pages of the food dishes and includes 150+ Paleo Recipes. Another boon is that it’s written by Dr. Loren Cordain. In case you didn’t know he is one of the leading expert on the Paleo Diet.

Conclusion

Overall these books will make an excellent collection to anyone’s cookbook library but my overall recommendation goes to The Paleo Recipe Book. Check out my full review to learn more.

 

Paleo Tips To Burn Stubborn Fat

As far as I can tell using the Paleo Diet and checking out my Paleo Recipe Book Review is one of the best approaches to kicking your metabolism into gear to burn that stubborn fat. By making the switch to the caveman diet a lot of your body’s natural triggers turn on to get you losing weight. In this post, I’d like to take a closer look at how to get rid of stomach fat, particularly the fat around your belly.

1) Keep Carbs and Fructose Down – First and foremost, you’ll want to keep your in take of carbs and sugar (fructose) quite low. By abiding by these standards you’ll find yourself in ketosis. This is a state when your liver starts to turn fat into fuel to replace glucose.

There are quite a few metabloic advantages to being in this ketotic state. In fact, most of your cells actually prefer using your glucose as energy in this manner. If you eat just 50 grams a day or less you will find yourself in this ketotic state.

A good ratio to abide by is 75% fat, 20% protein and 0-5% carbohydrates. If you follow this ration you will definitely be moving towards less stubborn fat.

2) Proper Sleep and Plenty of Vitamin D – One of the main reasons that people incur stubborn fat is that their body is completely out of balance. Their metabolism is out of whack. One of the sure fire ways to keep the system in balanced is to get more rest. The more you sleep the more your body will thank you.

Vitamin D is another crucial element in having your body heal. If you aren’t getting much sunlight, you’ll want to get 4,000 IU’s of Vitamin D every day.

3) Strength Training – Kicking the butt of that stubborn fat will involve a bit of a push. You’ll want to work out intensely but keep the workout shorts. That means less chit chat and more lifting!

Especially important is to keep the exercises focused on functional strength. For example biceps curls work the biceps but it isn’t very functional. You’re only strengthening that one motion. Instead you’ll want to do exercises like squats, dead lifts, pull ups, shoulder presses and bench presses).

History of the Paleo Diet

The Paleo Diet does indeed have a long history. Of course, by now you understand that it’s roots begin with the caveman so I won’t go that far back into history. What I really want to discuss is the appropriation of the modern day “Paleo Diet.”

It’s roots begin with Gastroenterologist Walter L. Voegtilin. He was one of the first individuals to suggest that maintaining a diet like that of Paleolithic man would create better health. His first book and study was published in 1975.

In this book he argued that man is primarily a carnivore (sorry vegetarians!). The Paleolithic man survived primarily on fat and protein with just a small amount of carbs sprinkled in here and there. Remember, carbs are product of modern day agriculture. Just 10,000 years old. A blip on the evolutionary calendar!

In any case, Dr. Voegtillin’s publishing were based on anecdotal evidence that he accumulated while practicing medicine. Then there was a key paper published in 1985 by S. Boyd Eaton and Melvin Konner. This is when the Paleo Diet became more mainstream.

Then in 1989 a Swedish scientist and medical doctor conducted a set of studies on the people of Papua New Guinea. These people were living lives that were very similar to Paleolithic peoples. His key findings were that these people did not suffer from stroke, heart disease, diabetes, obesity or hypertension.

Since this “Kitava study” a lot of interest has grown in the paleo diet among medical doctors/nutritionists and lay people alike. This Swedish scientist ended up publishing numerous books on these New Guineans garnering even more interest.

Since then, it’s become a lifestlye and even a movement for some people. A slew of products have been released from cookbooks. Of course this site is dedicated to one of those products.

The Two Enemies of Your Paleo Diet Success

I know that this blog is dedicated to the Paleo Diet and more specifically to my Paleo Recipe Book Review. I happen to think that it’s an awesome product in support of a really cool lifestyle. But hey, I want to maintain complete transparency.

In a tribute to this, I’d like to introduce you to some of the problems that people most often face when getting involved with the Paleo Diet. And away we go…

1) Cravings - This is completely natural, especially if you are used to a a diet that is high in carbs. But there’s something that happens when you start a new diet. Your genes begin to express themselves differently.

That’s right, you actually have an opportunity to change yourself on a genetic level. For most people, you will crave pasta, cookies, rice or whatever other thing you used to eat. But as you remain steadfast, you’ll find these cravings subside.

Modern scientific research supports this as well. In fact, the blood cells that are in your body, right at this moment, will be completely different 28 days from now. In this short period of time you’ll have completely reinvented yourself, at the level of what’s coursing through your veins. Along with that blood goes unnecessary toxins.

Just as an added bonus, Chinese medicine supports this philosophy as well. All prescriptions have assigned patients to start a new treatment or new diet for 100 days. Why? Because this is about the time when your metabolism would change.

2) Motivation – There are moments you’ll question why you ever decided to start this path. There are moments that you’ll ask yourself why you ever decided to step onto this journey.

For me it was because I saw the results a friend was having and I wanted to try it out for myself. I also knew that I could leaner. I’d also be lying if I didn’t say that part of the reason was because I wanted to see if I could actually do it! That’s right. I just wanted to test myself.

The main lesson I learned is that if you want something bad enough you are undoubtedly going to get it. I passed up opportunities to go out with friends to fast food restaurants, didn’t eat at time and started shopping at a different grocery store.

Honestly it was all worth it. It was all worth it not just due to my extra energy and weight loss. It was worth it because I built more credibility within myself. I found that I could really do it. That I could really make it happen. This is above all else the most valuable lesson learned.

Amazing Information About The Neanderthal

Hey this is known as the caveman diet and the neanderthal diet so I figured, you might as well learn some information about your ancestors. So, here goes.

The Neanderthal lived in Europ and parts of Asia approximately 150,000 years ago. They were well prepared to live in cold, they were of short stature but were quite strong and had large noses. Their height was 5 feet and 6 inches and you could compare them to competitive weight lifters.

The phrase “Neanderthal” was first patented by Irish research William King in 1863. In case you were wondering “thal means valley in German. It has two different spellings.

Compared to you and me, the Neanderthal was quite large and had different skull features than us. There is no evidence of their skin color, hair color or soft bits of their face. This is quite obvious considering all we have to go by are their bones.

These guys also rarely used tools. There is hardly any evidence at all that they used antlers, shell or other materials to amke tols. They did however have a few axes and other sharp tools that they used for hunting.

Here is a list of a few other physical characteristics of our powerful hominid friends.
1) They have massive shoulders with large scapulas
2) Their pecs were enormous, twice the size of ours
3) Their short and powerful arms suggest more strength in the rotator cuff
4) Their solid frame rested on quads providing a solid base from massive explosive and juking power.

Most importantly as related to your Paleo Diet, they never suffered from so many of the modern afflictions that modern day humans die from such as heart disease and strokes.

It’s really common to call someone a Neanderthal as a derrogatory term. However, there have been other sources, both paleontologists and fiction writer that counteract this sterotype. Hey, we’re all eating like them so maybe they were actually genius.
